I’m an expat dad living in and eating my way around Tokyo.  I get together with other dads and moms to check out the local food scene and tell the world about it.

If you love food, Japan must be on your list of pilgrimage destinations.  Tokyo boasts more Michelin star-rated restaurants than Paris or New York, but there’s so much more to the food scene here than those fancy places.  So I’m going to focus on the stuff that average folks eat and where they eat them.

You can certainly expect coverage of ramen restaurants, but I will also devote attention to many of the other wonderful foods you can get in Tokyo.  And perhaps I may talk about my attempts to cook for my own family, assuming the food turns out well.

I’m not a food expert who can dissect an entrée like one of those judges on Top Chef.  But I don’t think you need to be one to enjoy eating, to know what you like, and to make observations about the local food culture — what people eat, how they cook it, and (especially in Japan) how they have adopted foreign ingredients and culinary influences to fit the local palate.
